Not Your Standard style post with Kayla Seah

The beautiful and talented Kayla from Not Your Standard is a gorgeous half Italian-half Chinese fashionista from Canada and living in Berlin. She lives and breathes fashion and started her blog as a way to share a certain standard of living. I have been admiring Kayla's page for quite some time and had to share her sense of style.

Fitness, Food and Flowers just go hand in hand, don't they?

One of Kayla's style tips;

"Don’t over do it, less is more most times – stick with pieces that hold great shape, I find those pieces to be my most coveted ones."

Kayla Seah - Not Your Standard
Kayla joins us today for our Fitness Food And Style Q&A's;

1. What fitness activity do you schedule into your daily routine to keep healthy?

I work out 4-5 times a week, a combination of strength training and running. I find with having such a busy schedule I must find the time to exercise to keep my sanity. When I’m at the gym it’s my only time I can really focus on that moment instead of thinking of what to do next and tackling my to-do list.

2. Describe your dream meal - what could we expect to find on your plate?

Quinoa with roasted sweet potatoes, beets, caramelized onions, walnuts and smoked tofu drizzled with a home made spicy sesame sauce.

3. Who’s your go to style icon - who have you always admired for their style, and why?

I have always admired Christine Centenera, fashion editor at Vogue Australia. She wears structured pieces and is effortlessly chic, I dream of her shoe closet.

4. What’s a childhood habit or mannerism that has followed you into adulthood?

Punctuality. I’m so glad my Mum taught me how important that trait is. It’s significant in everything you do in life.

5. Name three things you can’t leave the house without and why?

Phone - I am an Instagram addict, my homemade granola bars and sunglasses.

Fitness style Food style Street and Home style

When I first came up with my Fitness Food And Style name, I wanted it to capture everything that was stylish in the clothes we wear, home environment, the way I prepared our food and of course feeling stylish when working out!

I was over the daggy tracksuit pants I was wearing that was covering my overweight self and our home looked like a tornado hit it, with so many toys and clutter everywhere that I just wanted to simplify the way we were living. The kids had far too many things, a lot more than I did growing up and that also included my wardrobe. I am such a hoarder. So that too needed a change.

Here's my little snapshot gallery and inspiration when it comes to what Fitness Food And Style means to me.

I try and keep my wardrobe staples to a minimum these days, a great dress, jacket, a pair of jeans, boots and of course accessories just finish off the look.

Jump in style. Active range provided by Stylerunner

When it comes to my fitness style, the brighter the better. Feeling and looking great when working out gives me more zest in life and I love sharing with you the amazing brands I work with and thank Stylerunner for the active range they provided me in my recent photo shoot.

I love everything that has anything to do with food. I love the vibrant colours, the plate arrangements when food is presented to me and of course I try to do the same when preparing and cooking food for our young family.

Our place is under construction as we revamp our home style with some fresh paint, carpet, floor boards and general decorating and style pieces. We really need to make use of our family room which we will convert to the kids creative space where they can have their 4 individual designated space with cupboards and desks for their little imaginations to run wild.

As you know I have the amazing Melissa from Foxtrot Studio and Furniture helping me with our home decorating and you can read more about the first room she has styled for our boys room.

How about you? What does Fitness Food And Style mean to you?

Much love and friendship,

Leopard and Leather style feature with Jacki Miles

I love the world of fashion and when it comes to leopard print and prestige leather there is no better person to give us her tips and tricks than the aspiring stylist Jacki Miles. Thanks so much Jacki for sharing your amazing Leopard and Leather Instagram account with us as you truly have style in my eyes.

Let me introduce you to beautiful Jacki as she shares with us her Fitness, Food And Style ethos;

1. What fitness activity do you schedule into your daily routine to keep healthy?

I like to vary my workouts between crossfit, hiit/circuit training and weights.  I've recently rediscovered swimming (after a 15 year hiatus), and have found I really love the quiet and peacefulness of it all - you get the chance to focus on your body moving through the water, elongating your body, feeling the connection between stroke and kicking - it's very therapeutic and meditative for me!

2. Describe your dream meal - what could we expect to find on your plate?

I absolutely love Mexican food so anything from that family (especially anything with coriander) that is fresh and colourful has me interested.

3. Who’s your go to style icon - who have you always admired for their style, and why?

I love the style of the girls, Tash and Elle, from They All Hate Us. It's relaxed and casual, and features a lot of my favourite items (leopard and leather obviously) but also stripes and basics of white grey and black. I like how they mix cheaper basics (from Seed Heritage, Witchery, Cotton On etc) and designer pieces together. I'm a big fan of the 'just threw it together look' that requires as little effort as possible.

For more structured styling, I really am loving Kim K's wardrobe (post Kayne). Love or hate her, she knows how to create amazing looks for her body whilst sticking to a strict colour palette of neutrals or black. Plus I think she definitely owns some of the credit for making wearing your workout gear outside of the gym sexy! Her black on black workout ensembles are some of the best!

4. What’s a childhood habit or mannerism that has followed you into adulthood?

Good table manners never go unnoticed.

5. Name three things you can’t leave the house without and why?
NARS tinted moisturiser with SPF
Water
iPhone

My fashion tips/tricks

Invest in;

A great leather bag, but be weary of trends. Stick with black, cream, tan or red.  I've got a cherry red Balenciaga motorcycle bag I've had for 8 years that I still use and get compliments on. It goes to show if you buy good quality they will last well (and I most certainly am not the poster child for taking care of things properly!). The second thing is to really think about what you'll be using the bag for the most, what size you need, whether you want a shoulder strap or you're happy to carry it. I love my Alexander Wang Rocco duffle, but with the brass studs it makes it such a heavy bag that i can never take it travelling. It's heavy enough empty! Personally I like to keep a few bags in rotation. I haven't bought a new bag in 2 years so at the moment I am toying with a new purchase of a Chloe Paraty or Marcie bag - and apart from knowing I want black - I can't decide on which size or model! I will usually spend 3 months researching before buying a new bag, looking at images before I decide. For this reason I am a solo shopper!

Leopard print shoes - whether they be sandals or flats, heels or booties - a leopard shoe is very versatile and can instantly jazz up what would be a basic outfit. They go great with white, black, grey or denim! I even have leopard print nikes I bought when I was in New York last year so I can carry the style to my workouts!

Leopard accessories - I have a great Louis Vuitton leopard print scarf that I've had for 4 years and still wear it at least one a week! It goes great with a leather biker jacket or I can wear it on the beach as a sarong! It's one of my all time favourite purchases. Leopard scarves are always on sale every season so you can find one that suits you and your budget.

Style with Lisa Hamilton from See Want Shop

I have admired Lisa from See Want Shop since joining Instagram last year and simply adore her sense of style. Today we interview Lisa as she shares a glimpse of her life with us about Fitness, Food and what she loves the most…..Style.

We take 5 minutes with Lisa today who share's with us a little bit about herself.

1. What fitness activity do you schedule into your daily routine to keep healthy?

Currently I am in the midst of a 30 day yoga challenge, so have been practising either hot or flow classes which I am loving. I also play team sports regularly.

2. Describe your dream meal - what could we expect to find on your plate?

My dream meal would have to be a freshly homemade zucchini and carrot spelt pasta. My partner is Italian and I swear I never tasted anything better than his family’s pasta dishes. I love how they keep the flavours so simple.

3. Who’s your go to style icon - who have you always admired for their style, and why?

I have always always loved the Olsen twins. Ever since I was a little girl I have been a big fan of them. They continue to pave the way for fashion with their designer labels as well as their day to day streetstyle. I particularly love Ashley’s style with her distressed denim, oversized tees, black totes and boyfriend blazers. If I could steal her wardrobe, I would.

4. What’s a childhood habit or mannerism that has followed you into adulthood?

I am still a sucker for a good bubble bath. I have one at least once a week.

5. Name three things you can’t leave the house without and why?

My phone - it is essential in my industry to stay connected
My paw paw lip balm - a daily beauty essential
A water bottle - staying hydrated is so important

Favourite Five this Friday - November 15

Another huge week for me here at Fitness, Food and Style ... I can't believe how non-stop life has become. If you caught yesterday's post about my recent Carnival Cruise experience, you'll be totally up to speed knowing it has pretty much consumed most of my week - not only experiencing it, but there's also been some severe reminiscing since I've been back, just sensational!

You'll never guess .... but once more I'm off on a work trip - just busy, busy, busy these last few weeks! Keep an eye on Instagram and Facebook for some snippets about what I'm up to now, and who I've got coming your way ;)

Let's get started then and without any further delay, come and join me for a dash back through my week.

Here are five moments that I've found sensational this week, but I'd love to know what YOU have been doing, so be sure to catch up by leaving a comment.

And my memorable moments of the week this Friday are ...

1. This past week I was treated to some of THE most sensational food offerings on the Carnival Cruise. Being the food-loving girl I am, I was seriously in heaven. This was a typical spread - so fresh and delicious!

2. I can't mention the cruise without also remembering the fabulous people I've met this past week. So many fun new friends who I just clicked with instantly. I know I'll keep in touch with them all! Have you met and kept in touch with some people you've met on a short break?

3. Crazy, busy times call for super quick meals. There's nothing wrong with a meal thrown together as quickly as this when it is super nutritious too. Just look what you can do with some tins - tuna, corn and beans - served alongside fresh, leafy greens. Drizzle some olive oil and lemon juice as a dressing ... all in 5 mins! Easy and scrumptious ... it beats a dash to the fish and chip shop any day!

4. As much as it has been a whirlwind week of excitement, it is always fantastic to get back home to my loved ones. My 4 kids and fabulous husband missed me as much as I did them - HEAPS and I loved having Zali as my little shadow the day after I got back.

5. This week, I loved having some fun with my fashion and feeling great in an outfit can give you such a lift of confidence for the whole day. No matter your age or body shape, if you choose clothes that make you feel great everyday you can treat this world as your runway and own it ;)

So that's my week in a nutshell! Pretty busy for a mum of 4 don't you think? What have you been up to ... do share your five highlights in a comment!

Packing for a cruise ... my 20 must have items!

You can probably imagine how excited I was when I got the call inviting me to join Shannon Ponton (the PT from The Biggest Loser) and media teams from Fitness First and Women's Health on a Carnival Cruise. Yep, very!

One of the best things about blogging here at Fitness, Food and Style is being able to work for pleasure. It's something I'd always aspired to achieve so this, my friends, is job satisfaction and I'm living my dream.

If I can, then you can too!

Marc Anthony once said "if you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life" and I think he's right and so, at almost 40 years of age, I've got my perfect job.

While you are reading this, and for the next few days, I'll be working away. On a boat, cruising towards Vanuatu and I seriously can't wait!

All this excitement leads to a dilemma of sorts ... what the heck to pack when going on a cruise?

In times like this, I call for inspiration and direction from famous words, and for the next few days while cruising, this is the mantra I shall be living by ....

"Look famous.
Be legendary.
Appear complex.
Act easy.
Radiate presence
Travel light
Seem a dream
Prove real"

Ok, so travel light. That's a bit of a challenge but I'm determined it's doable.

Luckily I've been on a cruise before now and that experience is coming in handy!

Here then is a list of the 20 essentials I'm packing in my luggage:

1. MacBook Pro - yes, its work related remember ;)
2. iPhone - would never be without it anywhere ;)
3. Tinted moisturiser - for an easy up and go and sun protection in one
4. Swimsuit -  my new chevron patterned one piece will be ideal
5. Sandals - party shoes for dancing the night away
6. Nausea tablets - not anticipating trouble but just in case
7. Thongs - cruise essentials ... of course
8. Sunhat - would never be without it in the tropics
9. Shorts - great combo with tees and dress up with chevron halter top!
10. Neon yellow belt - my inspiration colour for the week

Loving my Seafolly chevron halter neck swimsuit

11. Clutch & jewellery - just to dress up my casual look
12. Lip balm/gloss - I never leave home without it
13. Sports drink bottle - hydrate 24x7
14. Toiletries - toothbrush, paste, hair products, make-up etc...
15. 2XU Quick Dry Towel - I'm sure Shannon will make us sweat!
16. Workout/yoga gear - always nice to sweat it out but meditation is my thing
17. Blue reflector aviators - look famous remember
18. MILK Sunscreen - an absolute must lounging beside the pool
19. Neon yellow nail polish - funky wear for my nails in keeping with the tropical them
20. ASICS Gel-Kayano runners my new kicks for sprinting around the ship, keeping active

Happy 20th Birthday Asics! Loving the Gel-Kayano runners

I'm so looking forward to learning some PT tips from one of the best in the business as well as hanging with some pros in the fitness/well being media camp. Not to mention all of this on a fabulous cruise liner heading to paradise .... still pinching myself, but my passport in my hand so it must be real!

I told you I had the world's best job right? Some good news is the ship has free wi-fi, so I'll be posting updates and snippets on Instagram for you to share the excitement with me. Can't wait to tell you more about the Vanuatu experience once I get back.

Are you working your dream job too? Tell me what you do that you love!

Much love & friendship.
