Dani Stevens - Vie Active $250 giveaway

The Story Behind the Brand...VIE ACTIVE
Vie Active, put simply, is Australia’s premium high performance fitness fashion label and I am a huge fan! Designed and tested in beautiful Bondi, Co-Founders Noa and Bryan prove fashion and function can coexist. Using the most technical fabrics available, including Merino F3 Supplex and F3 Compression, Vie Active has raised the bar in the fitness apparel world. Their pieces are suitable for high performance sports, social settings & everything in between.

Why I love it: By far the quality, design and uniqueness of this brand will get you noticed. People stop me down the street when I am wearing their range.

Noa takes 5 minutes to share with us her Fitness Food and Style ethos;

1. What fitness activity do you schedule into your daily routine to keep healthy?
I just try to move in someway everyday. This is to help me from going crazy as I have a very busy mind and I find exercise balances and focuses me. Sometimes it may be a soft sand run, other days I will go to a workout class (I'm loving both HIIT or Barre sessions) and some times it might just be riding my bike to and from the office which is the most pleasant way to get to work!

2. Describe your dream meal - what could we expect to find on your plate?
My favourite food is Japanese. My dream meal would probably be a seaweed salad with tonnes of avocado, some Salmon sashimi and grilled wagyu steak.

3. Who’s your go to style icon - who have you always admired for their style, and why?
I adore Jessica Alba's sense of style. As a busy working mum she effortlessly mixes in style with functionality in to everything she wears.

4. What’s a childhood habit or mannerism that has followed you into adulthood?
Whenever I used to workout with my late father he would never let me turn around (whether we were running laps on the sand or swimming across the Bay in Bondi) without touching the wall on the other side first. It's a habit I have never lost and it forces me to always push myself that little bit further.

5. Name three things you can’t leave the house without and why?
My phone... I am addicted to email and social media for work, water bottle and a snack!

Thank you so much Noa for sharing a glimpse of your life with us. I can't wait to meet you all and please share this post with your friends and family for their chance to win a $250 gift voucher from Vie Active.

Much love and friendship,
xxDani

Fitness Transformation Tuesday how to lose weight and maintain it!

Dani Stevens - Body transformation after baby number 2

Here is a very old post I found for this weeks Transformation Tuesday. Yes. It's me. I have 4 kids and this picture was taken 6 years ago after having our second son, Oscar.

I believe we are all different and need to be exposed to various exercise program's to try until we find the right ones. I followed the Fit Yummy Mummy program for 5 years and it truly works! Now I'm taking it to the next level with the high intense interval training with Freeletics. You can check that out under my FITNESS tab.

I'm here to share with you what has worked for me so please feel free to check them out.

I hope you enjoy going back down memory lane. Oh how time flies when we are having fun xD

* * *

Yes, I know, I know..... too much eye make up but hey! How often do you get a chance to get all glam'd up and pose for your hubby and be like one of those girls in a magazine??! Now my hubby has his own cover girl :-)

How did I get my body back? 5 years ago I stumbled on this 15 minute workout program. I only workout 90 minutes per week (along with my fun fitness challenges I run with you). This fitness regime suits me perfectly as I am not in a position to pay a baby sitter nor could I be bothered working out for an hour in my day. With 4 kids under 8 years of age my time is pretty jam packed with other important life experiences and things to do, so here are my success stories after ALL of my 4 pregnancies here.

Are YOU getting the results you are after? If you are great! If not and you are seeking an exercise regime that will target and burn your baby body fat, I highly recommend this program. In fact if you click on my link you will receive a 50% discount off the ebook and 30 days free trial at Clubfym. Seriously, you have nothing to lose, except that stubborn fat that is just hanging around.

*TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY features*

I would love to share your fitness transformation on Tuesdays, so please click this link which will take you to our interview questions. I can't wait to feature you!

Fitness Transformation Tuesday with Emma Brettig

Today we welcome Emma as she shares her fitness journey with us. As she mentions below, she wasn't really overweight but she wasn't making healthy choices either. Please share your words of encouragement as Emma embraces her new healthy lifestyle.

Thank you everyone for submitting your Transformation Tuesday story, I love reading each and everyone of them. Keep them coming and click on the hyperlink.

Until next week.

Stay fit and healthy!
xxDani

How old are you and please can you share your health and fitness journey to date?
25 years old - For a very long time I tried to be a healthy person and I exercised all the time, but the problem was I used to reward myself with bad food that actually did me damage rather than make me happy. Last year I realised I couldn't be a healthy person part time, I had to fully embrace and completely commit to clean eating to see a change, and thankfully I have! I am so much happier, have so much more energy and would never go back!

What types of foods did you used to eat as a kid and young adult? What's changed since then?
I used to eat healthy all week but then on the weekend start eating bad, processed foods like: icecream, chocolate, timtams, kitkats, takeaway foods, etc. I now believe I was actually addicted to sugar. I've cut out all processed foods, I have green smoothies every day, eat oats for breakfast, make protein power balls for energy and even a square of 85% chocolate. I really try to not make food a reward.

Do you play any sports or what sports do you like watching?
I love walking my dog every morning before breakfast, I love the gym: I do weight training 4 x a week and classes for cardio. I'm currently training in BodyAttack to teach this awesome Les Mills program.

What are your interests, passion and what makes you smile?
Cooking, exercise, bodyattack, discovering new recipes, walking my dog, relaxing with my husband, travelling the world, long beach walks, love talking to people about health and fitness - that's really makes me smile!

What was the catalyst that sparked your lifestyle change?
I went to USA Sept 2013 and put on even more weight & I was miserable, had no energy, didn't want to exercise, I didn't even want to go to work - I just had this overwhelming feeling that I had to get my life in balance by committing to clean eating 100%

What are some of your dreams/goals you hope to achieve over the next 12 months?
I want to finish my BodyAttack training and I'd love to train in RPM - I currently work as a dental therapist so my goal by the end of the year is to do this part time and work part time group fitness instructing

What tips would you like to share with my readers about your transformation?
Don't give up, it took 5 months between the transformation photos but it took about 6 years of trying before that. Diet is key, clean eating all the way- not just the bodily changes but internally I feel so happy, content and on top of the world

Fitness Transformation Tuesday with Alli Abott

So many of us have different views on how our body should look and feel or what the perfect fitness body should look like. Some of us have kept fit and healthy most of our lives and majority of us, not so much. Today Alli shares her fitness journey and I would like to congratulate this gorgeous woman for competing in her first bikini competition. You go girl! I wish you all the very success in the future and keep on inspiring.

For those that wish to submit their fitness stories please head to our Transformation Tuesday tab. I look forward to featuring you.

Much love & friendship,
xxDani

  • I recently turned 23. Fitness has always been an important part of my life. I grew up playing Softball and Volleyball, and played volleyball at the NCAA level. Although I have always worked out for sports training, I started lifting weights and getting serious about my nutrition two years ago. Although I was strong and "in-shape," I felt I could take my physique to a much higher level, and set out with that goal. Ever since then, I have been so fortunate to receive great support, both from family & friends, and on social media sites like instagram and twitter. Recently, I competed in my first NPC Bikini competition, which was an amazing experience!
  • I didn't pay much attention to my diet growing up. Since I was always playing sports, I always figured I was burning off whatever excess calories I consumed. My diet was full of simple sugars/starches and was not consistent. Over the past few years, the biggest changes I have made have been adding in more protein and limiting my simple sugars/starches. Also, I have tried to take the calories I would eat in three large meals, and spread them amongst 4/5 smaller meals throughout the day to keep my body fueled.
  • I play both softball and volleyball. I like watching all sports, including hockey, basketball, football, baseball and of course, volleyball!
  • I have a tremendous passion for fitness and health, particularly in the setting of children and families. I think that the habits we form at a young age can make lasting effects on our health for years. It would be one of my dreams to work in some way to increase awareness about eating healthy and exercising.
  • Honestly, it was looking in the mirror and not feeling my best. Working hard to stay fit, I am so much more confident in everything I do. Being healthy has so many benefits - a strong body makes for a strong mind.
  • I hope to compete again over the next year, keep making improvements in my physique, and continuing to get more involved in the incredible fitness community that I am still pretty new to!
  • There are many diets and workouts out there. First, everyone will benefit more on one particular routine than another. It takes time and patience to figure out what will get you the results you desire, so don't give up. Second, ANY positive change you are making in your life is important, even if it seems very small. It is so much more important to pick a routine that you can be CONSISTENT with, even if it will take a few years to reach your ultimate goal. Stick with it!
  • I LOVE interacting with members of the fitness community, it keeps me motivated!

Friday Fitness with PT Mike Campbell

Today I am excited. Not every day do I get to post a healthy male physique on my blog :-) Let me introduce you to Mike. He is a trainer, coach, author, and a massive fitness and nutrition geek. When he started as a Personal trainer nearly 10 years ago, he didn’t envisage coming across the same issues day in and day out, however, he did, and constantly has. Now he focuses on solving these problems for men, and also what led to him writing his book.

Mike Campbell - Personal Trainer

Mike is incredibly passionate about helping guys become the best man they can be. He is the mastermind and creator of the ‘Unleash Your Alpha Program’- a proven system for helping men unleash the power and awesomeness that lies within them, not just physically, but in all areas of life.

Plus he loves to cook, eat and talk to his food. He loves stone fruit, cold beer, red wine and to think of himself as a low level Batman. And he likes to lift heavy things, eat many a variety of meat and write short bios.

You’ll find his advice to be uncomplicated and immediately actionable. Mike believes strongly in making things easy to follow and implement and cutting out the confusing noise and misinformation in the health and fitness industry.

1. What fitness activity do you schedule into your daily routine to keep healthy?
My go-to exercise modality is resistance training. Namely, heavy lifting or Olympic lifting. However, over the last 12 months I have been incorporating a lot of gymnastics. Both on the rings and the floor. It’s as awesome challenge with endless room for improvement, which is why I like it so much.

2. Describe your dream meal - what could we expect to find on your plate?
Ha, well seeing as many people call me ‘Meat Mike Campbell’ due to my meat eating exploits of eating 52 meats over 52 weeks... I’d have to say meat. And naturally I lean towards steak, but seeing as the number 1 meat from my 52 weeks was wild Himalayan Thar (a wild and abundant mountain goat in New Zealand) I’d have to say some wild Thar back strap. Very specific, I know! What with it? Maybe some baby potatoes and fresh salad of produce all from my dad’s wonderful veggie garden and a glass of Central Otago Pinot Noir.

3. Who’s your go to style icon - who have you always admired for their style, and why?
I’ve never had too many concrete icons in terms of style. However, when I think about modern guys it would be the likes of Daniel Craig, Ryan Gosling- especially his actual character in Crazy, Sexy, Love. That’s not to say I wear a sharp suit often, in fact, as a trainer I rarely do. However, I own two sharp yet simple suits that fit me incredibly well. And that’s probably the overriding thing for me with style- clothes and fashion that suit you, not necessarily what’s in or looks good on others. If there’s one thing about style I strongly believe, it’s about looking and being at your best without being in any way pretentious about it.
4. What’s a childhood habit or mannerism that has followed you into adulthood?
An obvious one would be eating loads of fruit. My mum would often find me sitting up a neighbourhood plum tree absolutely getting stuck in to as many plums as I could muster. Now, I still eat loads of fruit, plums are still a favourite!

5. Name three things you can’t leave the house without and why?
Hmm, sadly given our current technological obsession and my easy submission to it, my phone is always on me. I’ll admit I like it for all sorts of aspects, but effectively having my office in my pocket is vital for running my own business. Otherwise my eyesight requires glasses at all times! And I rarely leave the house without clothes on... J, just one of those things I pair with a constant positive attitude when I walk out the door!

Thank you so much Mike for joining us on Fitness Food And Style today. So lovely to have you here and I am sure our male readers will love your book and no doubt the ladies too ;-) Come visit Mike at his Facebook page for daily inspo.

Fitness Transformation Tuesday with Katrina Berkenbosch

Transformation Tuesday. I love it! Seeing all the submissions and reading your stories just makes my day. Today is no other exception. Please welcome Katrina and if you would like to follow her Instagram and Beyoutiful Facebook pages, she would love your support.

For those that wish to share their Transformation Tuesday stories please click here. I would love to feature you.

Much love and friendship,

  • I am 28. My fitness journey be an last July, I was tired of being in denial of my weight gain, usually hovering around 130, I was 160 when I started . I was tied of not being able to climb the stairs. I was tired of feeling "like that". I had always been active as a teen, so I had always been thin. Even after child birth I had gone back to "normal" after kids... Except after my third. Since August 2011 I had been packing on pounds, and once I started working out, two years of weight actually came off in 9 months!!!! 9 months ladies, 9 months. I started with hot yoga. Being SO out of shape, a treadmill was out of the question. Yoga got me stretching again, the warmth eases your muscles, and it's more of a workout than you think. After I gained strength I began the stair master. It's an evil machine, but it makes you SWEAT!! Gaining my lung capacity back, I was able to start the treadmill, walking only 0.5 of a mile in 45 minutes. I continued all of this for 9 months - except now I can run 2.6 miles in 45 minutes!!
  • I love fruits and veggies, I'm not big on chocolate, I'm not big on pop... I eat really healthy generally. What changed was I found wine. I found my daily caloric intake in a bottle. My advice, don't go there ladies. Just don't.
  • I'm not big into sports, other than soccer. I do watch FIFA when it's on, but that's actually about it! And of course the odd hockey game hubby wants to see.
  • My children and painting. Painting is my out, it is the only time I can escape this world and paint my own. My children let me be young, let me escape bills and life, and remember what simple is.
  • It's going to sound silly, but when I couldn't fit into a size 10 anymore. Being a size 3, then a size 5 after kids, I had gained so much weight that my pant size doubled. Realizing that I was going to have to start buying an even larger pant was a really big moment for me.
  • Now that the weight is gone, I plan on toning and gaining muscle. I plan on being able to run 4 miles by summer, hopefully 5 by the winter.
  • Start off small, you aren't going to be a body builder off the bat. You need to be realistic with yourself, and your level of fitness. People quit all of the time because they "can't do it" - walking for 20 minutes and lifting 2 pound weights is working out. 5 sit ups is 5 more than you did yesterday. Then push yourself next week. Do 25 minutes, do an extra rep with the weights, push for 10 crunches. In life we all start out small as babies, and we grow into adults. It's a process that is painful and it takes patience, but if you're reading this you've survived growth up until this point. This means you have the patience and persistence for growth and change. This is your life, and you will the changes. Take charge and do not give up!

Kids Adventure Festival at Mt Baw Baw was amazing!

You know how we're an outdoor family, well when we got an invite to the Kids Adventure Festival in Mt Baw Baw our kids already had their bags packed before I could say "Who wants to go to....."

Ahhhh…. Mt Baw Baw a beautiful 3hr drive from Melbourne and how lucky we are to be so close to an Alpine region. This place brings back so many wonderful memories for me as my Godparents used to own the Noojee trout farm. As a little kid we would go up to the mountain, I had the best times exploring. So I wanted to share my fond childhood memories with our children and of course get them to experience it first hand. Mind you my husband had never visited this region before, so we are excited with our road trip.

Mount Baw Baw

The weekend was jam packed with so many activities designed, especially for the kids. How great it was to let your child run wild…..from abseiling to a little tough guy/girl challenge,  indigenous painting, mountain biking and much much more!!!! Click here to view all the activities.

Without boring you with my words, I'll share our experience with pictures as they truly do say a thousand words!

Breath taking bush walks

Reptile handling (my two little heroes, Mietta and Zali)

My hubby doesn't like spiders, snakes or sharks so he declined. I was totally overwhelmed at how relaxed Mietta and Zali were handling the pythons. They truly are my inspirations and the reason behind giving me the strength to break one of my biggest fears EVER. After I held the python Noah and Oscar wanted to face their own fears too. WOWZA!!! Our heart rates were beating in overdrive!

"Take every chance and drop every fear!"

Snakes. The very things that haunt and paralyse me if I ever get near one. We all have fears and this amazing weekend allowed me to conquer one of my greatest fears of ALL TIME!!!!

Indigenuous artwork & face painting

I even gave the volunteers a helping hand as the kids were lined up for miles for this favourite activity!!!

Little tough guy/girl challenge

Mark Collard - Adventure based educator

The amazing Mark Collard giving the kids a little skill tester prior to the obstacle course. Mark is one of Australia's most experienced and qualified play & adventure-based educators and another great man we met over the weekend.

Food

You know me and my love of food. I have to share the amazing cuisine served infront of the picturesque LaTrobe Valley. So many delicious meals to choose from and the kids meals were amazing too!

Camp site

Depending on your preference you can either camp overnight or stay in the chalets. Either way. Such an awesome getaway.

Mountain bike race

Bungee trampoline

We also got a chance to meet an adventurer! Our kids were totally besotted. Cass is no ordinary adventurer. Noah and Oscar like to call him the snowman AKA polar bear adventurer! Cas and Jonesy are in the books of Antarctic history!!! Becoming the first team to travel unaided to the South Pole and back, surviving three months of extreme hardship.

James Castrission with his biggest fans

His talk on the Saturday night was one of the many highlights during the event. James Castrission (Cas) is the ambassador for the inaugural Kids’ Adventure Festival at Mt Baw Baw and a professional adventurer who in 2008 became the first person to kayak across the Tasman Sea. Then 2 years later he completed the longest unsupported polar expedition of all time. He has authored 2 bestselling books & speaks at conferences all over the globe. Cas is a father of one and strongly advocates the value of getting parents & children into the outdoors.

Cass and Jonesy casually strolling the South Pole :-)

Cass takes 5 minutes to share with us his Fitness Food Style ethos;

1.  What fitness activity do you schedule into your daily routine to keep healthy?

My family and I live in the upper Blue Mountains just out of Sydney. Every day we’re out playing in the outdoors - Instead of going to the gym, I go rock climbing, instead of running on a treadmill, I hit the dirt tracks. It’s a lifestyle that suits our attitude about the importance of getting outside!

2. Describe your dream meal - what could we expect to find on your plate?

After the amount of time I’ve spent on long expeditions eating dehydrated meals (last one was 90 days in Antarctica)- I crave fresh salads and a well cooked steak! Oh… and finishing it off with a perfectly ripe banana with some vanilla yogurt and honey. YUM.

3.  Who’s your go to style icon - who have you always admired for their style, and why?

I wouldn’t say style is a strong passion of mine… Down in Antarctica we only had 2 pairs of undies & thermals for our 3mths expedition! I guess my mantra when it comes to style… if it’s clean its good!

4. What’s a childhood habit or mannerism that has followed you into adulthood?

My parents always drilled into me: always give what you’re doing 100% & never give up. I’m not the toughest adventurer out there by any means, but this is definitely one maxim I live by.

5. Name three things you can’t leave the house without and why?

1. North Face down jacket
2. Hair ties or a headband (nothing worse than going for a run and the hair mopping your face!)
3. Toughest thing when going away is leaving my wife and 15mth old baby boy- Jack. I often want to throw them in my luggage so they can come with me!
 * * *

Thanks so much Cas for sharing your life with us. For those that wish to join Cas on a tailored adventure retreat for your family, please visit: www.MyAdventure.com.au. A big thank you to Mount Baw Baw for an amazing experience which was tailored perfectly for our family of six!

Have you been on an adventure lately?

Much love and friendship,
xxDani
