Rocktober Challenge - 15 week Freeletics transformation challenge

Hello everyone! Ready for this months Rocktober fitness challenge? YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS!!!

I just recently came across Freeletics (as most of you are aware, I don't have the flexibility to go to a gym with 4 kids under 8 years) so the beauty with these workouts is, the only equipment required is YOU!!!!

Fitness Food And Style joins Freeletics

Workout wherever you are at home, at the office, park etc... How cool is that? That is why I had to share it with you. You have a choice of which program suits you. My husband Adrian is also joining me along with my brother Daniel and a few other friends. We are pumped!!!!

The first set of exercises are pretty intense!!! 5 rounds of burpees, squats and sit ups. You start with 50, 40, 30, 20 & then finish off with 10 reps. As fast and hard as you can.

Aphrodite is a cardio and strength based workout

Freeletics is all about perfecting your time with each workout. There are two types of training: Workouts and MAX. The exercises have to be completed in the exact same order and number as stated. You need to complete your workouts as fast as possible.

These workouts are global. So many male and female "Free Athletes" across the globe wanting to reach a specific fitness goal. What I love the most about it, is WE are all connected and share the same goal orientated plan.

So that's our plan this month to start our 15 week transformation. Will you join me?

If yes, please visit Freeletics.com register and buy your preferred workout guide. Have a look at some of these amazing transformations for some inspiration;

Are you ready for your Freeletics transformation? Let the countdown begin.

Much love and friendship

Rave Reviews on Fitness Food And Style

There's a bit going on here at Fitness Food And Style. So much so I want to share everything I have access to. That is why we have created "Rave Reviews" for all my FF&S readers. Interested?

Fitness Food & Style is giving you the chance to become part of our ‘Rave Review team’!

How does fitness, food and style related give aways sound? Ranging from fitness gear, popular kitchen appliances to stylish homewares. Well if you’re excited, we are TOTALLY EXCITED!! All you have to do to participate is subscribe to FF&S and enter your details on our reviews page, and we’ll add you to our ‘Rave Reviews’ list!

The Rave review form will give us the information we need relating to selected trials based on what you’re interested in and where you live. Even if you’re a single gal cooking for one or a yummy mummy cooking for 5, you get the drill!

How does it work?

As soon as you’ve signed up and we start getting our review requests, we will select the 5 most appropriate ‘Rave’ reviewers for each trial (randomly). If you’re selected then we will contact you and have the business send you their product directly. Once you have the product you have a week to play with it, use it, wash it, eat it….whatever!! Then you must come back to our review page and leave your review/comments. There is however a criteria. We will give you 3 points to cover, based on the company's request and each point must be reviewed by at least 2 sentences or more. All up we expect the process to take 4-5 weeks from beginning to end.

Here’s the catch...if you don’t come back and we have to chase you forever….. then you don’t get anymore freebies and lets face it we all LOVE freebies! So make sure, if you are lucky enough to be selected you do the ‘right thing’ and leave your review according to the timeframe.

So please click here and fill out your details with your preferred products to trial and keep, and submit your expression of interest TODAY!

Happy Thursday.

Much love and friendship,
xx Dani

Yoga tree pose wearing Electric Yoga top from Stylerunner and Onzie leggings

Today is a day of rest. So I got into my yoga gear (don't forget to include your ffs_friends 10% discount code when shopping with Onzie) and attempted a tree pose. I purposely do it over our pool to concentrate on my balance and to challenge me. I especially enjoy the look out as I try to get a little "me time" during the school holidays in Australia.

I also announced our $100 Stylerunner gift box on Instagram today. So a huge congratulations to Robyn Sharpe for all your pictures and for participating in our #ffs_style challenge last week. Your gift pack will be coming your way and I look forward to seeing more of your pics in your Stylerunner gear!!!

Did you manage a work out or is it a rest day for you as well today?

Happy Wednesday!

Weight loss story on Transformation Tuesday with Jon Mahoney

This is pretty cool. To see images side by side like this is such an inspiration and I hope my male readers are inspired as I know my husband was when he saw these before and after pictures of Jon.

Let me introduce you to Jon, who grew up eating junk food and only one to two large meals per day. This has now all changed, have a read of his transformation.

How old are you and please can you share your health and fitness journey to date?
I am 24 years old. I first started lifting weights at 18 years old going into my freshman year of college. I fell in love with the results I saw and the discipline it imparted into my life.

What types of foods did you used to eat as a kid and young adult? What's changed since then?
My diet was pretty terrible growing up. Luckily I didn't have a big appetite so I would usually only eat one or two meals a day but when I did eat it would be a lot of junk foods.

Do you play any sports or what sports do you like watching?
Never really had an interest in sports. I played hockey for a few years growing up but lost interest. I am a strength and conditioning coach for high school and college baseball players so I have developed a certain fondness for baseball.

What are your interests, passion and what makes you smile?
I love training! Constantly pushing myself to be better is my passion. I'm also an avid reader and love taking my dog for walks.

What was the catalyst that sparked your lifestyle change?
I was always very skinny growing up and was interested in working out from a young age but never had access to a gym. Once I was able to join a gym I fell in love with it.

What are some of your dreams/goals you hope to achieve over the next 12 months?
My goal is to compete in my first bodybuilding show next summer. So I will be training very hard this year to get into the best shape of my life!

What tips would you like to share with my readers about your transformation?
Hard work and consistency. If you want to see results you need to make a plan and stick to it. Don't constantly be stressing about whether or not you are doing the most effective plan. Just stick with a good plan and be consistent!

Thank you so much Jon for sharing your healthy new journey with us. You can follow Jon on his Instagram handle cast_iron_trainer.

Chanel has come up with a brilliant concept where you receive a monthly jewellery subscription (pay as you go, no locked in contracts) at a price range that suits you, which includes 2 pieces of jewellery  of your category, delivered to your door every month! How cool is that? I am a sucker for my monthly magazine subscription but never thought to spoil myself or others with a jewellery gift box each month.

It is a perfect way to save time and money, as each month you save up to 40% on retail prices and as a member receive 15% off the Enjoy Jewellery store every time you shop online. Members also receive a Christmas gift and an amazing monthly special/promo (members only).

Chanel designs a large portion of the jewellery and then has it handmade, so designs can be altered in size, colour and style depending on the customer. Therefore many of the pieces can be worn more than one way adding value and bringing a uniqueness to this collection. Chanel's vision is to offer jewellery and accessories to help make the most of your wardrobe while being relevant to the current fashion trends.

It's absolutely ideal if ever you want to gift it to a family member or friend. So for all Fitness Food And Style rockstars out there here is a super dooper offer for you. Feel Good Friday

Where did this week go? All I can remember was the beginning of the week and here we are at the end of it. Never mind. Push on. Lets keep going right?

Image: My feature in the Lorna Jane July MOVE campaign

Fitness

I have seriously dropped the ball with my Fit Yummy Mummy exercises, I can't believe I haven't been able to allocate 15 minutes in my day with all that's been going on around me. That's life, right. I am all about keeping it as real as possible so yes even healthy and fit people can drop the ball. I am definitely living proof and am in no way perfect.  I don't consider myself as a super really healthy and fit person, just a regular Mum that is trying to get some consistency in her life whilst managing a household of 6 peeps!

My meal planning dropped this week, well this entire month. Hang on. The last few months!!!! Don't get me wrong, I'll plan maybe one week or one day and then I'm off track and it shows. Over the winter period I have gained 5kgs (11lbs), which doesn't really bother me if it was all muscle!!!! I'm back to that lazy way, bulge overhang and just being soft.

So it's time to step it up a little, get refocused and get me back on track. This week it's all about;

I need to get some order back into my routine as when I slip, I slip real hard. I eat so much unnecessary and quantity of food that I sometimes make myself sick. I'm sure there is a condition for this, have no clue what it is. So who's ready to join me?

Food challenge #ffs_healthyspin

1/4tsp baking powder

Method

Beat egg whites. In second bowl combine the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Fold the egg whites into the batter and bake for 180C degrees (350C F) for 20 minutes. Toppings used: peanut butter and banana with frozen raspberry.

Style

1. harem pants 2. light grey beret 3. aviator sunglasses 4. metallic jumper 5. black canvas sneaker

This was one of my outfits during the week. I was totally in a chillaxed mood as I have been up early hours of the morning with work. I am over the moon with what's been happening with my business lately and super excited to be interacting with London and Munich these days which requires me to be in their time zone which is typically between 10pm and 2am our time.

The pieces above have been selected from the Polyvore app however my harem pants are from Sussans, glitter jumper, beret and sneakers from Sportsgirl.

What's you favourite gear to lounge around in?

Have a sensational weekend and looking forward to our Week 3 challenge which is all about STYLE.

I wasn't able to edit this video properly so please ensure you rest for 60 seconds in between each super set.

Weight loss story on Transformation Tuesday with Christian Climber

I love it when I get submissions from my male readers, it's so great to see the transformation and dedication these guys do. Christian is no different, from his hard rock band days of not treating his body right he has turned a new page.

Introducing you to this amazing "healthy" rockstar now converted to the world of health and fitness Christian Climer!!

Christian on the right hand side with his friends Chris (L) and Justin (R)

How old are you and please can you share your health and fitness journey to date?

I am 24 years old and currently reside in Orlando, FL. From the time I was 17 until just about a year ago, I traveled the globe non stop as a full time touring musician in the Alternative rock band There For Tomorrow. After abusing my body for years on the road it became evident to me that I was not taking care of myself physically. It all began by simply trying to make better food choices while on the road and trying to educate myself in that.

That soon blossomed into learning more about fitness and before I knew it, I was obsessed. I'm sure many of you reading this can relate. 2012 was my last year of consistently being out on the road, and set out on getting my certification as a personal trainer. I wanted to do this not only to further my education in this vast world of fitness, but also in hopes of inspiring and truly helping others become their best self.

To me, being fit is not just a physical thing. It is a mind, body and spiritual elevation of an individual. These days, I am training at a local gym and also do private training on the side. I am now at college in pursuit of my Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology and hope to change as many lives as possible until I'm old and happy :)

What types of foods did you used to eat as a kid and young adult? What's changed since then?

My diet as a kid was very similar to any... horrible. I constantly ate junkfood growing up. That carried over to my years on the road, and the easy access to processed foods didn't help much either. In the past 2 years I have learned so much about proper nutrition, and nutrient timing as well, and how that alone can alter your mood and physical state.

I preach good eating habits everywhere I go and can never stress it enough to my clients how important it is. That being said, I also stress to everyone how important it is to ENJOY yourself! Cheating is not only scientifically proven to be beneficial but also to maintain some sanity! No matter what goals you have in mind, we all still need to enjoy life, because it's the only one we've got.

Do you play any sports or what sports do you like watching?

I played basketball all through growing up and played for my high school as well. I'm still in love with the game and my dream would be to somehow incorporate my love for fitness into that world at some point.

What are your interests, passion and what makes you smile?

I love music, and still play my guitar quite frequently. Obviously besides fitness, I enjoy spending time with my lovely girlfriend, playing basketball, watching movies & traveling. I love experiencing new things and seeing new places. There is nothing more exciting than that to me.

What was the catalyst that sparked your lifestyle change?

It was really the slump I had been in from traveling so much and seeing the negative results on my body. I wanted to look different, I wanted to FEEL different. So I decided to make a change.

Christian Climer fab abs

What are some of your dreams/goals you hope to achieve over the next 12 months?
While continuing my education, I hope to expand my private training to a whole different level where it becomes more of a Private Training Company that involves other trainers and not just me. I feel like a team of motivated individuals intent on changing peoples lives is far better than just 1.

What tips would you like to share with my readers about your transformation?
Never underestimate yourself. Push yourself to be better every day, and always strive to learn new things! The internet is full of free advice, so take what you can from it and move on.

Come follow Christian on his Instagram and Facebook handles @christianclimer facebook.com/ChristianClimer or visit him at www.TeamFitnessElite.com

Thanks again for sharing your new fit and healthy lifestyle Christian.

September challenge - super sets

Thank you all for your input in our challenge this month. I decided to tailor the below exercises which will target ALL your areas identified. To make it even more fun, I've mixed things up a bit and used one of my favourite exercise methods, SUPER SETS.

Fitness Food And Style September "super sets" challenge

I love super sets. It's the greatest workout to lose fat and gain muscles while adding intensity to your workouts. Supersetting is an excellent way to keep your gym visits or in my case workouts at home short and sweet. It will bump up the intensity of your workout and build muscle.

What is a superset? A superset is performed when two exercises are performed in a row without stopping. However a rest period is required after each super set. Eg: after the A1, A2 exercises, rest for 60 seconds and then commence B1, B2, rest for 60 seconds and then complete C1 and C2.

I will be posting videos for these super sets which we will do on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Warm up and cool down.

Always start with a light stretch or warm up routine which will prepare your body and prevent injury to the muscles, especially when your muscles are cold. The cool down will help you body clear lactic acid which builds up during any activity. Less lactic acid = less soreness and stiffness the next day!

Super sets

Arms, shoulders and back

A1 Plank with alternating leg lift

Start this exercise in the push up position. Arms should be out in front with shoulders directly over hands, legs straight out behind and resting on tip toes. Keep abs engaged throughout the exercise. Lift one leg up about 15cm (5 inches) from the mat, and push heel straight back about a foot. Bring foot back and return to the mat. Repeat same motion with other foot.

A2 Spiderman crawl to push up

From a push-up position on the mat, walk forward with your right arm as you lift your left leg and step forward.  Now repeat with your left arm and right leg.  With each step, stay low to the mat.  Continue alternating, for about 20 yards while keeping your back straight throughout movement.

*REST 60 seconds

Legs and butt

B1 Bulgarian split squat

Grab a pair of dumbbells and hold them at arm's length next to your sides, your palms facing each other. Stand in a staggered stance, your left foot in front of your right, Set your feet 2 to 3 feet apart. Place just the instep of you back foot on a bench. When you're doing split squats, the higher your foot is elevated, the harder the exercise. Your front knee should be slight bent. Brace your core.

B2 Squat with weights (kettle bell, plate or dumb bells)

Choose a pair of dumbbells and hold them down by your sides. Stand with a slight bend in your knees and your feet around shoulder width apart. Keep your head up and your back straight. This is the starting position. Keeping your eyes facing forward slowly lower your body down. Don't lean forward as you come down. Your buttocks should come out and drop straight down. Squat down as far as possible or at least until your thighs are parallel with the floor, and then slowly raise your body back up by pushing through your heels. Do not lock the knees out when you stand up, and then repeat the movement.

*REST 60 seconds

Flat & firmer belly

C1 Swan dive

Lie on your stomach, stretch your arms overhead, point your toes and lift your arms and legs about 15cms (6 inches) off the ground. Hold for 1 count, imagining your legs being pulled out and back, away from your hips. Next circle your arms out to the sides and behind you. Exhale and reach your arms toward your toes, palms facing in. Hold for 1 count, then bring arms back to starting position and relax entire body to ground. Repeat.

C2 Tone it V hold

Sit with knees bent and feet on the floor. Clasp underside of thighs with both hands, hinge back and lift feet until lower legs are parallel to floor. Release hands. Straighten legs and reach for your toes, hold for up to 10 breaths.

Nutrition

Please ensure you are eating healthy and adequate protein is obtained. Popular sources typically say 1.4g to 1.8g (0.6 to 0.8 g per pound) of protein per kg of body weight per day is required for the cell growth and muscle repair. That's why I opt for my 180 Nutrition protein powder as that contains 22g of protein in just one serve and with my daily scoops x2 that's 44g. Leaving me another 49.8g with my standard healthy eating throughout the day. If you would like to know how much protein you are eating throughout the day, I highly recommend the app Fitness Pal.

Here's an example of my protein intake per day;

1.4g x 67kgs = 93.8g protein

It is super important for us to hydrate so if you didn't download last months water challenge pdf, I highly recommend you keep track of your water intake.

Carbohydrates are also important (5-7g per kg) as they are our source of energy and for the body to restore glycogen levels in our muscles. Avoid those white foods eg: rice, flour and high processed foods, biscuits and sweets and go for all kinds of vegetables, fruit, oatmeal, lentils, brown rice etc...

As most of you know, I have a pre (typically 1-2 hours beforehand) and post (protein shake normally) workout meal and this ensures adequate energy and amnio acids are available for the intense workouts I do. I love the fact that I only need to train 15 minutes per day with the Fit Yummy Mummy workouts which you can read more about under my FITNESS tab.
